Juan de Fuca Day #2

Rain can't stop us

Waking up at about 8.20am, shortly before alarm, wondering when it's going to stop raining. Fortunately, drops falling at the tent coating mimic rain way more heavier than it actually is. It almost doesn't rain at all, just water is coming down from the tree tops continuously. We prepare a quick breakfast, have a quick chat about today's part of the hike and getting ready. We are in no rush and leaving shortly before 12pm.

We arrive at Sombrio Beach after 4 kilometres, where it's possible to camp as well in case you are fast enough and make it there all the way from Botanical Beach. One thing we did not have in the previous camp (actually in none of the campsites we stayed at) are wooden platforms, designed specifically for tents (next time!). We are crossing multiple suspension bridges and we also explore secret waterfall, hidden just a few steps from the beach.

We head towards Chin Beach after a short break, where we plan to camp this night. It's about 8 kilometres from Sombrio Beach and the trail condition seems to be much more pleasant compared to a day before, except for a few ups and downs (stairs included!) right after we exit Sombrio beach.

We arrive at the Chin Beach at about 6.30pm and have little difficulties finding a proper camping spot for our four tents (we are not exactly a small group), thankfully we are able to secure last spots super close to the food cache. We know all the drill now, putting up tents and cooking dinner. Great addition is a campfire ring, where we start a fire about 30 minutes later. We can still see other hikers coming, which do not have any other option than setting up tents right on the beach.

We hang out by the fire almost up until 1am and have a great time. We then decide to put out the fire with water as it's going strong and can easily last for another hour or two (safety first!). We fall asleep pretty quick thereafter and are excited for the most challenging part of the trail tomorrow.
